November Meeting : Empower Yourself to Take Control of the News and Information You Encounter

November 5 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Mattapoisett, MA – The Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee will hold its November monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the Mattapoisett Library Meeting Room. The meeting will feature a special workshop led by Laura Gardner, a National Board Certified Teacher in Library Media and Teacher Librarian at Dartmouth Middle School.

Gardner’s presentation, “Empower Yourself to Take Control of the News and Information You Encounter,” will explore the challenges of misinformation and disinformation in today’s digital landscape. Participants will learn practical strategies for:

  • Identifying AI-generated and misleading content
  • Fact-checking and evaluating sources
  • Strengthening personal media literacy skills
  • Talking with friends and family members who may have been influenced by misinformation

Gardner brings over 15 years of experience as a Teacher Librarian, recently serving on the prestigious 2024 Newbery Committee. Beyond her professional expertise, she is a climate activist, avid reader, daily bike commuter, and mom of two.

This program will give community members the tools they need to navigate the flood of information we all encounter every day. We’re thrilled to have Laura share her expertise on such an important and timely issue.

The event is free and open to the public.
